I called it “Hell in Paradise”. Originally when booking my trip to Phuket I had not prepared myself for what this would be. Without proper research I assumed it would be “The southern city in Thailand, close to a beach”, as Kaohsuing in Taiwan or Busan in South Korea. However, this is a completely different beast, on a touristy level beyond everything I have ever seen before. I have been lucky enough to be reserved from charter locations, but I guess not anymore after this. As I heard more and more “horror stories” from Phuket, I rebooked my stay, changing it from 6 days to only 3 days – and yes this was more than enough.
Phuket is still a very nice place, if you only look at the nature. There is a reason why it has become such a tourist machine. Just too bad this industry is eating up the place itself and killing what would otherwise be a wonderful place. Drunk tourists, “cheap” shops and seedy nightlife. Welcome to Phuket.
