Pace & Love

Pace & love is a little journal for ALIGN, a supplier of production- and safety critical equipment and solutions, showing their company values; Professional, Ambitious, Caring and Enthusiastic. Because of the season, they wanted a flavour of christmas added to the illustrations in the journal. For the project I decided to build the Pace & Love typography out of tools related to engineering and safety equipment, especially when building emphasis on the letters and their values. The typography is build up from over 100 deep etched objects. I did the typography, design and illustrations for this project.

This work was created as Procontra.

Movember Christmas

As a yearly tradition at Procontra, they always give away a donation to different causes in the christmas season to spred joy and help others. This year, we decided to donate money to the Movember movement and support prostate cancer. In that occasion, we made a movemeber themed christmas card, which include a moustache for the ones who didn’t save up for one during Movember or had not heard about the movement yet, and we encourage people to take photos of themselves wearing the moustache to continue supporting Movember, all the way until christmas. The tagline on the front says “Movember lasts until Christmas”. I did the design and illustration for this project.

This work was created as Procontra.

Check out the campaign, photos and videos at Procontra’s facebook page.

Weekend trip to Bergen.

Bergen is Norway’s 2nd largest city, and is known for it’s constantly rainy weather. However, in the weekend trip me and Marie took to Bergen, we pretty much avoided all rain. We got snow instead. But as it was only snowing at night, I didn’t mind it. Besides, it has now been 3 years since I have seen a real layer of snow since I’ve been in Australia for the 2 last years – and after returning to Norway I’ve been staying in Stavanger which gets more ice than snow.

Overall a very chill weekend, but quite cosy with going out on cafes and partying until early morning.

Friendly feature: Arvid Skimmeland

This is the first time I’m doing this, but I think it’s even about time I throw out a little word to some of my friends and family in the art and design business, everyone could always do with a little more exposure.
First one out, is Arvid Skimmeland.

He’s a freelance illustrator who got his bachelor degree in England a couple of years ago. He does everything hand drawn which is a nice contrast and natural twist to all the very digitally worked art and illustrations now a days, which I’m “guilty” of as well. Enjoy.

You can see more of his work and contact him here:

My last last fridays.

Been way too busy lately so I haven’t had time to update photos from social events and galleries in a good while. But here’s the start on trying to catch up. And too many pictures to follow in the post below!

I recently got a new job, but before I started my new job I was out drinking with my now old “work mates” at the Melvær&Lien where I had a desk as a freelancer. These are the highlights and moments captures from the two “Last Fridays”, which is their monthly drinking night together as a studio. And in the end of October it was my last last friday.

Double Vision

Pouring down drinks, starting to blur the lines and lose focus of the image, like watching a 3D movie but lacking both the extra dimension as well as the glasses. Giving you a double vision.

Night Out: Ekte Klang

A little belated, but last month I attended a concert in the Rosenberg Hall together with Melvær & Lien. The concert was arranged by the Rosenberg Group and featured the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra together with a few different artists. And as always we started out with a few drinks before heading out.

Casanova Typeface

I decided to make another typeface after working on some custom typography for another project, and I liked the interesting idea of having the typeface work with angles and direction with very strong base shapes most letters are based on and having thinner lines actually define the letter. It’s not a very ordinary font made for legibility, almost an arrogant font in it’s carelessness towards the reader – hence the name – but still has style and interesting ways to set the letters together.

Ruben Hestholm

Visual identity for Ruben Hestholm, a Norwegian photographer in the Sandnes / Stavanger area.
He mainly focuses on family, youth, pregnancy, children portraits.

When he approached me, he explained he wanted to enter the commercial marked, and the first step into the marked was by coming to me to get a complete overhaul on his visual identity and style, for a lot more clean, modern profile with style, to appeal to his new audience. The design was also made in mind to not turn off current customers, so the identity didn’t go too radical.

The identity is based on different cameras on the different surfaces.

Pushwagner Exhibition

This last Wednesday I went to the opening of Pushwagners exhibition at Galleri Sult in Stavanger. Back when I lived in Australia it was a weekly and even daily event to attend opening nights at different galleries around Melbourne – but Stavanger is a way smaller city and less events happening. Not to mention they are usually more “hidden” within the circle of friends, family and colleagues of the artist. Pushwagner on the other hand is a very well known artist, so it was a big event and I was excited to finally go to an opening night for the first time since I got home to Norway.

Choose your dose

Who doesn’t love coffee? I can at least testify that I freaking love it and it’s a huge part of my everyday life and creative process. But which dose is the right for you? And what is the outcome of the different dosages of coffee? I have created a series of posters, cards and coffee cups called “Choose your dose” to guide you to the right level on coffee intake. Find your dosage below.

Weekend trip to Lillesand

This weekend I was on a weekend trip together with the people from M&L going to Tone’s cabin in Lillesand – in the very south of Norway. She is kind enough to host everyone at her summerhouse/cabin. We were lucky with the weather and had a great time having a BBQ, playing in the sun and a good amount of drinks.

Heart Attack

As most of you people know, on the 22nd of July 2011 there was two attacks that happened in Norway, a bombing of the government block in Oslo and then a shooting that took place at an island called Utøya about 1 hours drive outside of Oslo. Both of these hideous crimes was performed by the same guy who’s a social outcast and right wing as his “revenge” on society. The guy was thankfully caught.

Not long after this happened, Positive Posters released their brief on this years poster competition and based on the brief this was the first event that came to mind for me, so I decided to make a poster about the recent events, mainly focusing on Utøya but still keep it as a motivational poster as in reminding of the tragedy but still showing how well people kept together and opened themselves to others afterwards.

Resturante X

Restrurante X is a high end, young and edgy restaurant focusing on delivering an amazing dining experience in Stavanger, Norway – or for those who just want to sit down for some exclusive drinks. I created the identity, as well as it’s own custom monolined typeface called “Resturante X Regular”, used in the logo and overall the identity. The identity uses both a emblem/seal logo and a regular logo and together with the strong yellow colour it creates a strong contrast.

Barcelona – Class contrasts

During my short stay in Barcelona and already within the first day it was quite clear to me that Barcelona was a city of contrast, in more than just one aspect of the word. It’s quite the tourist place, and it has nice buildings and locations, but you don’t need to even walk into any dodgy back alley to see all the huslters walking around to trick some stupid tourists or snatch their wallet. But when the night actually comes around and you do happen to walk in the alleyways, it’s almost absurd how frequently you’ll be bombared with offers of everything from the illegal scene. From all the drugs you can imagine to completely ongoing hookers that are pretty much begging you for sex(and money).

OFFF 2011 in Barcelona

OFFF is a anual design festival in Europe, changing locations and this year returning to Barcelona, Spain. I went down there for my first time at OFFF, but also first time in Spain – together with the designers from M&L. Although I don’t have a lot of photos from the conferences themselves from the event since I was busy paying attention to what was being said and shown, I still feel very inspired by everything I saw. New impulses, new people and new creatives to follow for future work. Being at the event and seeing what others did, I started itching to do some creative work myself.

Springtime

I went down to Kristiansand last Saturday and had a shoot there I was hired in to do for 2 models; Amalie and Rikke. Spring is here in Norway and summer is around the corner, so we decided to go for a spring/summer looks for the photos with an added twist of vintage fashion. The shoot took place at Odderøya, just south of the “downtown” of Kristiansand, on a rather cold and windy day – but the spring feel still shines through in the photos.

Mix tapes typography

With the use of mix tapes I wanted to create a typographic series drawn with only one continuous line, per side of the tape. Mainly sticking to writing one word in one seamless line. This was an interesting challenge typographic wise and made the project quite fun to work with. Each of the posters and typography has it’s own style of music. Here is the results, inspired by the days of the cassettes and homemade mix tapes.
